What to Expect at a Church Service

Going to church, especially if you have not been before (or haven't been for a long time), can sound uncomfortable. You might wonder, "Will they make me sing?" or, "Will I have to introduce myself to everyone?" or other things. (By the way, the answer to both of those questions is, "No!") We believe that you are not merely a visitor, but our guest, and nothing we do is designed to single you out or make you uncomfortable. On the contrary, we hope that you will feel welcomed, not only by us, but by the Lord Jesus Christ himself!

Here are several things that may be helpful to prepare you for a visit.

We are relaxed.

Our worship service is scheduled to start at 10:00 am (and 6:00 pm when we have evening worship), but we don't always rigorously begin at that time. However, in the morning, we aim to have our announcements shortly before 10 am, so that we aren't starting too much after 10. So, unless you want to be sure and catch the announcements (verbally) there is no need to come early, but if you want to, someone is usually at the building by about 9:15 to set up for the service. Some people dress up for the service, and others do not. You are welcome to wear anything that is comfortable; we only ask that your clothing be respectful to others.

We are orderly.

We provide bulletins that include the order of the worship service, a space for taking notes on the sermon, and general information about the church. Typically, one of our greeters will welcome you and give you a bulletin. If you would like, you may also borrow a Psalter (our songbook) and a Bible. You should find it easy to follow along with the service.

We are reverent.

The worship service is built around the Bible, which is the word of God. We begin with a time of silence to help focus our hearts and cultivate a spirit of reverence, and we ask that you honor this goal throughout the service. During the service there will be prayers based on the Bible; songs from the Psalter, which is a translation from the book of Psalms in the Bible; readings from the Bible; and a sermon of about 35-40 minutes, which explains and applies a passage in the Bible. We partake of the Christian ordinance (or sacrament) of the Lord's Supper each month, normally the first Sunday of the month. On other occasions we observe the other Christian ceremony of Baptism or witness someone taking membership vows to join the church. All these are things you may participate in with the congregation if you wish. The only exception is Communion, which is designed for Christians who have publicly professed faith in Jesus Christ and have become members of a church.

We are friendly.

The worship service typically lasts about an hour and twenty-five minutes. After the service we generally remain to fellowship together for quite some time. Light snacks are provided. If you prefer, you may leave immediately. If you would like to stay, we would enjoy getting to know you! Except during the summers, we have Christian Education (or Sunday School) classes for youth and adults starting about twenty minutes after the morning service ends. We are also happy to answer any questions you may have.

We are from every stage and walk of life.

Our small church ranges in age from less than 1 to over 80! Some come alone, others come in groups or as a family. Once we arrive, we are one big family! Small children are welcome in the service, however, we do offer an unstaffed nursery where you can still listen to the service.

We meet at the Lincoln Community Center in West Laramie, located at 365 W Grand Ave, Laramie, WY 82072. A map is available here. We hope to see you soon!
